Extract from  "Deeds Of Trouble" - A Medieval Mystery!

"The ground was damp and a little slippery but Matthew kept running.  The men were gaining on him.  It wasn’t easy running in his habit, especially over logs and branches.  Brambles were catching him and he felt the sharp pain as some thorns ripped across his ankles.  He could not stop; he had no idea where he was.  The woods all looked so strange and eerie.  He wanted to stop and catch his breath, but he knew that could be fatal.  They had attacked, they had killed and would kill again.  Matthew felt himself slowing down; he was running but not getting anywhere.  It was slow progress like running across a soft marsh.  An arrow zipped passed his head and embedded itself in a tree."
